Fish Tale

IN SEARCH OF A BETTER HEADLINE

You may have read about the near-catastrophe in the Netherlands when a commuter train flew off the tracks and landed on the tale of a gigantic whale sculpture:

I don’t know much about trains, aerodynamics or Spijkanesse, the town where the accident happened Monday morning. But I do know headlines, having spent years sitting on the rims of daily newspaper desks, so I was somewhat disappointed that the New York Times couldn’t come up with something better. And because the name of the town literally means “pointy nose”, I thought I’d stick my own into the creative process.

Third place: De-Whale-ment

Second place: Tail End of the Train

First place: Catch of the Day

I’ll be here all week.
